Judging and Points
A panel of three judges scores each wave on a scale of one to ten. Each surfer in a heat will surf 3 waves -- the two best scoring waves (each out of a possible 10) from each judge are added together to become a surfer's heat total (out of a possible 20).
Judges analyze the following elements when scoring waves:
Degree of difficulty
Combination and variety of maneuvers
Speed, Power & Flow
Utilization of wave
Style and Fluidity of linking of maneuvers
Innovative and progressive maneuvers
