Rank point rule change

In the past few seasons the SLSA had a rule in place that allowed every surfer to skip their worst competition result in the season, that is only the best four results counted for the final rank. That rule is still in place, however for those who volunteer to judge a Pro competition, the SLSA has another solution in place now.

Surfers that act as Pro event judges, will be given rank points for that event equal to their average surfing place for the season.
The average position for the judge volunteer will be recalculated as new surf placings for that surfer are achieved during the season.
Only one event will be eligible to be scored this way per surfer.

Explanation:
Only judges will be scored this way, as other staff positions can surf and do perform their role at the same time, and judges for Pro events are still difficult to enlist.
Calculation of overall season rank based on this change shows typically a one place improvement for judge volunteers.
Without judges there are no events, and this rule change is designed to encourage more surfers to help out and to judge one event during the season.

SLSA Sponsor New Additional Benefits

This Season SLSA Sponsors will be given a new benefit for the continued and generous support that allows us to keep running fun and successful competitions.

The SLSA is pleased to announce that SLSA Sponsors will now be able to direct market to the entire (900 plus) SLSA group a number of times per month, based on their level of sponsorship as follows.

  • Gold Sponsors twice per month
  • Silver Sponsors once per month
  • Bronze Sponsors once every 2 months

Messages will be submitted to the Sponsor Manager, who will then send them to the group using the SLSA’s Postmaster Messaging Gadget. Messages can include a notecard, landmark, object, texture or any combination of these. The Postmaster system sends messages when people are online to ensure delivery, and each Sponsor Message will be queued for 24 hours, to target members coming on line, after 24 hours, the remaining unsent messages will be sent as offline messages.
Because the messages will be sent via the SLSA Sponsor Messaging system, members may choose to opt out of receiving messages, however, we would encourage all members to take the time to support our generous sponsors.
Messages will also be posted to the SLSA Facebook page and tweeted through the two SLSA Twitter Channels.

1. Surfing events will be advertised to the community of over 6000 people community
2. SLSA events will also be placed on notice boards throughout the estate
3. Sim is placed next to the hub of the estate
4. The sims surrounding the new Sim have a beach and coastal resort theme, and will blend naturally and seamlessly with the SLSA sim
5. SLSA officials and managers will have management rights to a parcel on the adjacent full sim, that will be used for our events and rezzing spectator stands etc.

**************************************************

What is the reason for this move right now?
The directors are taking proactive measures, to address some of the major concerns of the SLSA members, namely taking measures to improve membership and competition participation. Access to a large vibrant community provides an opportunity to do this in a mutually beneficial partnership.

So is this sim going to impact existing and future surf sims?
One of the primary missions for this sim, is to act as a hub, an information center, that can independently direct surfers to other surfing facilities within SL, the SLSA remains committed to spreading the word about surf sims to all its members. In addition, the more active members we have, the more visits each of the surf sims can expect.

Will Members be able to rez there?
Yes, the SLSA members will be able to rez anywhere on the sim. Designated builders within the group, will manage the facilities and will return stray prims on a regular schedule. Thanks to such solution, the SLSA members will have a far greater sense of ownership and benefit from this asset that we all help to pay for. This will be a sim that all members can fully use and enjoy.

What happens to Archipelago our current sim?
Archipelago will be turned back over to its owner. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the owner for their generous hosting of the SLSA over the past two years, we wish them very much the best for the future.
