Historic Board

Hey everyone, I got confirmation from founder Kimmy Jigsaw, and as far as anyone can tell or remember this current board is in fact the very first ALL FEMALE SLSA board! So congratulations to Bobbi and Colleen for joining us and making it happen! 😀

Election Results!

The five members of the election panel for the March 1st election have each now received and counted all submitted votes.  All officers have the exact same tally.

This election had a great turn out with 44 voters casting their vote.  The final tallies for the 4 candidates were:-
Colleen Brennan 32
Bobbi Laval 24
Desirae Beaumont 22
Sexyboy Oh 10

As a result we welcome Colleen Brennan and Bobbi Laval to the SLSA board, they join Ashleigh Dickins, Giavannamarie Melody and Sally LaSalle as you current board members. \e/

We would also like to express the thanks of the SLSA to the other candidates that were oh so close Desirae Beaumont and SexyBoy Oh for volunteering their time to the association. \e/

In addition we would like to thank most sincerely Abel Halderman for his service to the SLSA as director for the past 12 months.  We would also like to thank Desirae Beaumont for her 6 month service as director.  Both these directors made significant contributions to the development and operation of the SLSA, and on behalf of all members that have enjoyed or will enjoy past and future  surfing competitions, guys please accept our most heart felt thanks.  \e/

In other SLSA news, we will be holding a fundraising event March 5, 2010 at Archipelago!  The wonderful CharlieO Michigan will be joining us again performing at 4pm SLT.  Stay tuned to the SLSA website and group for more information on the fundraising event and all things SLSA!

Elections!

Today, March 1st, is a board election day. There are 2 seats open, and 4 candidates. You may read more about them on the forums. You are eligible to vote in this election if you have competed or volunteered in at least 1 of the last surf events (note: each location counts as one event. ie. Mori Pwani Pro & Mori Pwani Invitational are one event, not two.) or are in the Hall of Fame. Please cast your vote for no more, or no less than 2 of the candidates by writing your name and their name on a notecard and sending it to all of the following: Abel Halderman, Ashleigh Dickins, GiavannaMarie Melody, Sally LaSalle & VW Sands (chosen to replace current director and candidate Desirae on the panel.)

See the in-world group notices for more detailed instructions.

Mori Pwani Pro Competition Results

The opening competition of 2010 Season One was held Saturday, February 13th, 2010 at 11am. It was a great competition that ran like a Swiss clock! The SLSA wants to thank not only the competitors and spectators that came out, but also the volunteers who assisted with making the competition run smoothly! Congratulations to the winners, and good luck to those advancing to join the Top 20 for the Invitational this coming Saturday.

Mavericks WaveWhile we were all at Mori Resort in Second Life enjoying our fun and sun, Real Life’s bravest pro-surfers were battling the waves in The Mavericks Surf Contest®, a half mile off the coast of Half Moon Bay, CA, USA.  During the contest the spectators found themselves inadvertantly becoming a part of the action when rogue waves swept them from the seawall as well as damaging some of the equipment and scaffolding being used by officials, causing the awards ceremonies to be moved to a nearby hotel. Read more about the incident on The Associated Press: here. Also congratulations to the winner Chris Bertish of South Africa, and much respect for all of the surfers who competed in those amazing conditions!
