Elections!

Today, March 1st, is a board election day. There are 2 seats open, and 4 candidates. You may read more about them on the forums. You are eligible to vote in this election if you have competed or volunteered in at least 1 of the last surf events (note: each location counts as one event. ie. Mori Pwani Pro & Mori Pwani Invitational are one event, not two.) or are in the Hall of Fame. Please cast your vote for no more, or no less than 2 of the candidates by writing your name and their name on a notecard and sending it to all of the following: Abel Halderman, Ashleigh Dickins, GiavannaMarie Melody, Sally LaSalle & VW Sands (chosen to replace current director and candidate Desirae on the panel.)

See the in-world group notices for more detailed instructions.

2009 Season 2 End of Season Awards and Stats!

First of all, thanks to everyone who came to the Rocky Horror Picture Show party the night prior to awards.  It was a lot of fun seeing everyone’s garters and lacy lingere.  The movie itself is so full of fun and absurdities that it’s a great way to release some steam and celebrate the end of a season.  Big thanks to the fabulous Desirae Beaumont for dedicating her DJing time!

And then came the awards ceremony.  Congratulations to all of the winners of this years awards.  The board is proud of the way the ceremony went with very few complications, and would like to thank all of the attendees for coming and having some fun with us as we honored this season’s greats.  Now we honor them again here in print:

Welcome New Directors!

On June 1, 2009, SLSA held an election for three open spots on the SLSA Board of Directors. Six candidates signed up for the election and 41 SLSA eligible voters participated in the vote. The newly elected directors are: WickedV Carver, Bonheur Chenaux and Robin Mapp. They replace retiring Sally LaSalle, Colleen Brennan and Robbin Ember on the Board, and join VW Sands and Abel Halderman for a full 6 month director SLSA Board term.

Congratulations and thanks!

SLSA welcomes new Directors!

September 1st was a scheduled election for 2 positions on the SLSA director board.  We had 3 great candidates all of whom are great contributors to the surf scene already.  82 members were eligible to vote in this election. 39 members votes and the results were that VW Sands and Tauri Tigerpaw were elected to office.   Congratulations to our two new directors 🙂 wishing you a big perfect waves and much jolification 🙂

Directors stepping down after there full term were Radical Twang and Milo Voss.  The membership of the SLSA owese both these guys a debt of gratitude, seeing the association safely through some trechorous waters includint eh introduction of Havok 4 system and a constiutional crisis in which the association was left with only 2 directors.   Well done guys and your deeds and efforts and love for the sport will long be remembered! 🙂

Hot Surfers Burn Up the Neart Epic

Congratz to ALL the surfers that competed in yesterday’s Reaction LongBoard Epic @ Neart in the West of Ireland Charity SIM group. We all saw some really hot and excellent surfing all day, it was very cool to be up in the judges area and watching all the action up close! At Neart, the SLSA trialled a new wave count system where each surfer gets an equal number of waves in the Semi’s and Finals. I think it worked well and didnt cause a large time blow out which was our main worry before the event. Let the SLSA know your opinion about how that worked over at this post in the forum.

The result was made extra exciting when we had ties for 2nd place in the first and second semi finals. With 8 final qualifiers we had to call a lightening tie-breaker to select 3 surfers to join Pova, VW and Christine who had won their respective semi finals and had automatically qualified for the final. The tie-breaker saw some of the best surfing of the day as the 5 2nd place qualifiers battled with everything they had for that spot in the final. Quench, Paeida and Desne all made it through and made the final an exciting and hard fought contest.

The Results of the Final were as follows:

  • 1st place QUENCH spotter with 17.83
  • 2nd place VW Sands with 17.50
  • 3rd place Christine Daffodil with 17.16
  • 4th place Pova Rustamova with 16.66
  • 5th place Paeida Allen with 16.50
  • 6th place Desne Aabye with 16.00

The overall Season Title is open to virtually anyone in the top 8 and 2nd and 3rd place title open to more! See all the Rankings here. Christine, VW and Desne have all improved there positions in the top ten and Quench’s win saw him rise from 47th to 11th place overall!!

The happy place getters manbo!ing to the crowd!

Our thanks to all the competitors and to all the volunteers, and a special mention to Tauri Tigerpaw who took out the inaugural Sportmanship Award.. Tauri was totally ace on the day and looked out for and after all the surfers (and judges) so well, gratz Tauri 🙂

A big thank you to the West of Ireland charity group and the professional staff that helped make the day a successful and smooth one. Be sure to help out their very worthwhile charity Project Children.

Last but not least a huge thanks to all the sponosrs that make the prizes and volunteer payments possible. Do yourself a BIG favour and check out the great products and sims that these people have made for all of us to enjoy.
